It is officially announced that Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ will take a digital route to reach the audience. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the Lucknow-set satire will start streaming from June 12 worldwide. ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ is a Rising Sun Films Production and is a quirky tale about a landlord and a tenant, the movie was all set to release in April but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the filmmakers have decided to take a digital route.
Shoojit Sircar who is known for his quirky tales like Piku and October is back with his satirical dramedy. The director is quite happy with the digital release he says, “This is the dawn of a new era for Indian entertainment. I am happy that a global audience will be able to watch our gritty dramedy, and enjoy what the film has in store for them. Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky, light-hearted movie that the audience can enjoy with their families.” This film is the first direct digital release for Sircar. Gaurav Gandhi, director and country general manager, Amazon Prime Video India said that Gulabo Sitabo will be released across 200 countries and territories and will ensure reach and viewership not only in India but across the world. In director’s opinions, he just wants the users to see the film, regardless of the platform.
Amitabh Bachchan took to Instagram to share the news, he wrote, “Ek izzatdaar janaab aur uske anokhe kirayedar ki kahaani… Gulabo Sitaabo premieres June 12only on @primevideoIN.” He made another post stating, “Joined Film Ind., in 1969 … in 2020 … its 51 years!! Seen many changes and challenges … Now another CHALLENGE … Digital Release of my film GULABO SITABO!! June 12 Amazon Prime 200 + countries… That IS AMAZING! Honoured to be a part of yet another change.” With the news, Big B shared some of the glimpses of look from the movie. Ayushmann Khurrana also shared the news on his Instagram, he wrote, “Advance mein aapko book kar rahe hai! Gulabo Sitabo premieres this June 12 only on @PrimeVideoIN aa Jaana fir, first day, first stream karne.” Many celebrities and fans reacted to the news; everybody is so excited to watch the multitalented duo share the screen. Gulabo Sitabo reunites Big B with Sircar after Piku (2015) starring Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan and with Ayushmann after Vicky Donor (2012) which was actor’s debut movie in Bollywood.
The direct digital release is a new chance for the audience as well as the entertainment industry since coronavirus pandemic has brought everything to a pause. However, the platform doesn’t really matter if the entertainment and content are really good and exceptional.
