Lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar were recently in an interview with NDTV where he drew a comparison between the Taliban and ‘those who want a Hindu Rashtra’ or supporters of RSS, VHP, and Bajrang Dal. His exact statement being, “Just like the Taliban want an Islamic State, there are those who want a Hindu Rashtra. These people are of the same mindset — be it Muslim, Christian, Jews, or Hindu. Ram Kadam, a member of BJP uploaded a video on Twitter expressing his thoughts about the same, “This statement by Javed Akhtar is not just shameful, but painful and humiliating for crores of functionaries of the Sangh and the Vishva Hindu Parishad and crores of people across the world who follow their ideology“. This statement led to a lot of BJP’s youth wing to pile up outside his establishment in Juhu and shout protests. A BJP MLA has come to the decision that no film involving Mr Akhtar will be allowed to screen in the country till he apologizes to the functionaries of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for his statements. Javed Akhtar is already involved in a legal battle with Kangana Ranaut regarding her statements which have defamed the poet.
